January Mixtape

When I started making this mix, for some reason I thought it was going to be something chill. Then I realized that I've been listening to a lot of new hip hop lately. I grew up during the golden era of 90's rap - so it's part of who I am. But I don't listen to it much anymore. Maybe it's because I have kids now. Maybe it's because it's gotten worse. Regardless, my ear is being drawn again to the poetry of rap and the musicianship of hip hop. I could even go as far as to say there's a renaissance of new young artists that are creating thought-provoking, inspiring, fun, and beautiful music. If this isn't in your rotation, just take a minute to open your mind, listen to the words, feel the beat, and start your new year embracing the spirit of hope, struggle, ambition, fortune, contradiction, arrogance, boldness, confusion and exuberance of hip hop embodies.
