Bioterra Groundbreaking
Sorrento Valley | San Diego | California
CLIENT
Longfellow is the world’s largest privately held investor and developer of life science property with a national portfolio of more than 14.5 million square feet. And they're growing.
The vision for the event was to give a glimpse of the Bioterra brand. To do so, the aesthetic featured warm and earthy elements with a modern feel. We were also tasked to create a hip, social environment that previews the ambiance that future guests can expect when the new space opens. Delicious food and drink were a top priority, as renowned chef Richard Blais will be opening California English, a restaurant in the Bioterra building in 2023.
PROJECT
Celebrate the groundbreaking of Bioterra - Longfellow’s first ever ground-up development in Sorrento Valley, a state-of-the-art 323,000 SF, six-story life science campus.
DESIGN & PLAN
Collaboration is at the heart of the MIHO team.
Each individual is essential in executing a flawless event.
FOOD & BEVERAGE
The MIHO catering team came up with a morning menu just perfect for this healthy group. Wellness shots of ginger, lemon and turmeric were passed around, while guests could munch on coconut chia parfaits with fresh fruit, cold smoked salmon on a house-made buttermilk biscuit, vegan avocado toast or get their “steak n’ eggs” fix with small bites of grass fed beef tenderloin, charred scallion aioli, cured egg yolk on lavash.
Guests were buzzin’ as Rugged Coffee served up iced lavender honey lattes and oat milk cappuccinos. The MIHO bar team stirred up something stronger: maple old fashioned with candied bacon, bloody marys with all the accoutrements and mimosas, naturally.
Because we had a great line-up of speakers including former mayor Jerry Sanders and plenty of entertainment for guests to stay and socialize, we wanted to serve a more substantial breakfast. We brought our beloved Airstream kitchen and served chilaquiles! Crispy tortilla chips with green or red sauce topped with an egg cooked to order, cotija cheese, crema, cilantro, pickled red onion and avocado. Delicious!
GROUNDBREAKING
Leaders of the Bioterra project, San Diego City officials and building collaborators celebrated the first-ever ground-up project with a ceremonial groundbreaking & words from the company’s executives.
The property will offer exceptional amenities for the community and a socially-minded environment. Therefore, we ensured there was ample time for music, connection and enjoyment. We scattered the lot with bamboo belly bars and fringe umbrellas for an earthy, bohemian vibe. And we cranked up the tunes from Dart Collective.
