Drinking in the Nude at MCASD

MIHO curated an art experience at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. The newly renovated La Jolla Campus has extraordinary views of the Pacific Ocean and is home to a world-class contemporary art collection. The venue celebrates the beauty of both art and nature. And our hope was to capture that connection through an interactive art experience.

The night featured Scarlett Baily — a Chicana visual artist specializing in murals, portraits, and illustration. She led a performative and interactive drawing session with a nude model. All guests became artists, and with a drink in hand, their creativity shined through.

The art activity took place in Jacobs Hall, a stunning multi-purpose event space with 23-foot wooden ceilings, and the entire west wall features floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing the stunning unobstructed San Diego coastline. Scarlett led everyone through a drawing exercise and encouraged the inner artist to emerge.

Guests didn’t know the subject of the drawing activity, which made the grand reveal of a nude model, well… simply remarkable. We had such great participation and enjoyed seeing our community transform into fine artists. In addition to the drawing experience, guests were led on private tours through the museum which showcased the stunning coastal views and expansive art collection. Catering partners Toast, Urban Kitchen Group and Feast on This showcased their culinary talents with small bites throughout the evening and musician Austin Burns delivered a vibrant sun-kissed acoustic show on the terrace.

Davis Family Oceanview Terrace

The Davis Family Oceanview Terrace boasts one of the best views in La Jolla and seats 150 guests. Nestled outside the newly expanded galleries and bordered by beautiful Italian travertine in warm earth tones, this terrace is the perfect spot for a wedding ceremony, cocktail reception, or gathering.

Once the live art wrapped up, we turned Scarlett’s mural into the backdrop of a portrait-style photo booth by The Lounge Booth!
